Which mounting medium is recommended for the Removable Chamber 3 Well, Removable Chamber 8 Well, and Removable Chamber 12 Well?

The Removable Chamber Slides, including the Removable Chamber 3 Well, Removable Chamber 8 Well, and Removable Chamber 12 Well, are compatible with a wide range of mounting media. The choice of mounting medium depends mainly on whether short-term imaging or permanent sample preservation is required.

Hardening Mounting Media

For long-term storage and permanent sample preservation, hardening mounting media are recommended. These media fix the coverslip in place after curing and provide improved sample stability over time. Typical examples are:

  • ProLong™ Glass Antifade Mountant
  • ProLong™ Gold Antifade Mountant
  • Mowiol®-based mounting media

Non-Hardening Mounting Media

Non-hardening mounting media can be used for short-term imaging applications. In this case, the coverslip should be sealed after mounting (for example with nail polish) to prevent evaporation or sample movement. Non-hardening media are generally not recommended for long-term storage. Typical examples are:

  • ibidi Mouning Medium
  • VECTASHIELD®
  • Fluoromount-G®

Important Note

Always make sure that the selected mounting medium is compatible with your fluorophores, staining protocol, and imaging method. The optical performance also depends on using a coverslip thickness that matches the objective specifications.
