What level of gas exchange/permeability normally occurs in ibidi polymer coverslips? Do they actually permit gas exchange at all?
The ibidi Polymer Coverslips do permit gas exchange. The permeability at 23°C is 153 cm3/ (m2 d bar) for O2 and 474 cm3/ (m2 d bar) for CO2. That means, per day, 153 cm3 O2 can penetrate 1 m2 of ibidi’s 180 µm (+10/-5 µm) thick polymer foil at 1 bar atmospheric pressure.
For hypoxic experiments on the ibidi Stage Top Incubation System, we recommend using ibidi slides with a glass coverslip bottom, since they are not gas permeable.
