Every ibidi channel µ-Slide can be used as a biofilm chamber. All the steps of bio-film formation – bacterial inoculation, maturation, sporulation, and dispersal – can be studied visually, directly under the microscope.
The Polymer Coverslip bottom of the ibidi channel slides (e.g., µ-Slide I Luer) is optimized for high resolution fluorescence microscopy. There are different channel sizes available, ranging from 0.2 mm to 0.8 mm, which enables a wide range of flow rates and shear stress. To study the three-dimensional (3D) biofilm development, the ibidi channel µ-Slides are also optimized for confocal imaging. In addition to live cell imaging, samples can be fixed and stained with fluorochromes in the ibidi channels.
For the long-term cultivation of biofilms under perfusion conditions, ibidi provides the specialized ibidi Pump System. Optimized for use with the µ-Slide I Luer or the six-channel µ-Slide VI 0.4, the ibidi Pump System enables the cultivation of bacteria under flow for days or weeks under incubator conditions.
