A Journey Through the Present
At the end of April 2019, a big move to ibidi’s own newly-built premises, in nearby Gräfelfing (near Munich), was on the agenda. Laboratory-, production-, and office-equipment was dismantled, packed up, loaded onto trucks, and reassembled—all within one week. Shortly after, all departments were up and running and back to business as usual.
The new building offered much more space, including separate production and research facilities. ibidi even had space to set up a showroom for product demos and trainings, as well as create an employee lounge with a rooftop terrace for after-work social time. In September 2019, the first ibidi partner training—with distributors from all over the world—took place at the new location.

The year 2020 started out busy and full of promise. In January, the marketing and sales team was still planning upcoming ibidi events, customer visits, demos, trade shows, and conferences. In mid-February, the first "International Cell Culture Under Flow Meeting" was organized in cooperation with the Biomedical Center Munich. During the two-day, international meeting, over 100 scientists from the fields of vascular biology, immunology, and barrier function exchanged ideas during talks, poster presentations, and informal discussions.
A short time later, events in Germany happened very quickly, and the first Corona lockdown was enforced. As in many German companies, ibidi initiated measures to ensure the safety of its employees, while still maintaining business activities and processes. Many of ibidi’s employees moved to home offices. Production and order procurement worked in shifts to minimize the risk of infection. With many of ibidi's global customers unable to pursue their laboratory work, demand for ibidi products dropped during the spring and summer.
Despite the challenges that everyone faced during the Corona crisis, the ibidi staff held its ground and continued to work on new ideas, innovations, and activities. Virtual meetings, demos, and seminars replaced face-to-face meetings with customers and colleagues.
